Could the next GTA be set in London?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

gta londonIn the original Grand Theft Auto we committed murder in Liberty City, sold stolen property in Vice City, went on a rampage in San Andreas and reducing 1969 British gangsters to browb bread in the streets of London.   All these places we’ve revisited in later GTA games apart from London, but that could be about to change.

In the 13th page of the Episodes from Liberty City’s manual is an image that was a possible clue to the next GTA games location. (more…)

Dragon Age: Character Creator released.

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Dragon ageIf you cant wait for Bioware’s high fantasy RPG, Dragon Age: Origins, to hit store shelves next month, you can head over to your favourite download site, and download the character creator.  The creator lets you design a character, including everything from the name and hair style, to the class and race.  Once done you can save your creation of further editing later, or importing into the game at a later date.

The surname is unchangeable and is set by your characters race/origin.  This could mean that your character will be refered to by their surname in cutscenes like in Biowares previous RPG, Mass Effect, or it could mean that your characters Surname and origin are going to play a big part in the story.

Overall I’m a little disappointed that with most of the character selections you only have the choice of two character origins, and if you choose to be a human warrior or rouge, you only have the choice of being from a noble family.  But I guess they cant do everything.

If you want to give creating your own hero a go you can download it here:

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

gogGOG.com, the classic PC game store, recently celebrated its one year anniversary, and with a lot of work they have managed to meet some of their milestones.

As a special thank you to the community, they have decided to put together a page on their site with a few statistics they wanted to share.

These include:

135717 posts on their forum

207 HD wallpapers

326 avatars

110GB space taken by their installers

21 guides

385 news posts

28 partners

1861 artworks

89 mp3 game soundtracks

7134 hours spent on testing (297 days!)

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

crash courseCrash Course is here, and its already caused the servers at steam (or at least the European Left 4 Dead update servers) to reach their maximum capacity, as all the PC gamers wanting to crash land into the new zombie filled campaign, Crash Course, desperately try to get the update, so they can be amongst the first to play.

The new update contains

A new campaign, “Crash Course”, is now available for play in Campaign, Versus and Survival modes
In Versus mode, all weapons, pills, health packs, molotovs, pipe bombs and other items will now be identical for the second round of a chapter
Matchmaking has had several improvements to make finding and joining games even faster
Ten all new “Crash Course” achievements have been added

I cant wait to give this a go, but I have a strong feeling that it could take a few hours before I finally get the update.

Majesty 2

majesty2

I never played the original Majesty or its expansion pack, The Northern Expansion, because when it came out I was between PC’s.  So when I went into Majesty 2, I expected yet another RTS game set in a fantasy world, but Majesty 2 turned out to be a unique experience that I wouldn’t mind playing more of in the near future. Murder, She Wrote: The Game

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

msw

When I was but a wee boy, I loved to watch murder mystery shows and the one I would have seen the most was Murder, She Wrote because it was on TV practically every day (and still is here in the UK).    As I grew older I started to realise that this little old lady brought nothing but death and destruction wherever she went, and the thought started to cross my mind that maybe she was the killer, but the show never confirmed it.

But now there’s an official Murder She Wrote game on the way, will it confirm my theories?

From the press release:

Assume the role of Jessica Fletcher, who has a knack for getting herself involved in “who-dun-its”. Using puzzle and hidden object game mechanics, you are immersed in 5 classic Murder, She Wrote stories. During the investigation you are challenged with several mini games and puzzles that you must solve in order to gather clues and save the day by helping friends and strangers discover whom the ‘real’ killer is. See below characters from Jessica’s journal whom she encounters. Are they criminals, victims or innocent bystanders? You decide.

Now, while it does say you get to choose the victims, and who else gets to do that than the ‘real’  killer, I have a strong feeling that this will not reveal Jessica’s darker side but we can always hope.

From the looks of things this is just going to be your standard point and click adventure game with a murder mystery spin, and while its not going to be the game for every one, its one that wannabe Sherlock Holmes should keep a close eye on.

Bioshock 2 release date announced.

Friday, September 18th, 2009

boshock2While we wont be revisiting Rapture this year we will be seeing its Art Deco architecture before St Valentines Day.     Bioshock 2 will be hitting store shelves world wide on February 9th 2009.

If you’ve been living under a rock and know nothing of the sequel to one of the biggest games of 2007 here’s the official statement from 2k Games.

Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. Players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, as they travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and their own survival.

Multiplayer in BioShock 2 will provide a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the BioShock toolset to survive, as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture.

Left 4 Dead 2 gets banned in Australia.

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Left 4 dead 2Don’t take this the wrong way Australia, but I feel sorry for you.  Its looking more and more like Australia is the strictest company when it comes to video games.  The problem comes down to the fact that Australia’s rating system for video games only goes up to a MA15, meaning its not suitable for people under 15, but a game like Left 4 Dead 2 would normally get an 18 or equivalent rating elsewhere in the world meaning it cant be classified in Australia and is there for banned.

According to kotaku the five reason it has been ‘refused classification’ are

* The game contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons aged under 18 to play.

* It notes that this violence is “inflicted upon ‘the Infected’ who are living humans infected with a rabies-like virus that causes them to act violently.”

* The report singles out the use of melee weapons as those that “inflict the most damage” and cause “copious amounts of blood spray and splatter (sic), decapitations and limb dismemberment… or even cause intestines to spill from the wounds.”

* In conclusion, the Board finds that the “interactive nature of the game increases the overall impact of the frequent and intense depictions of violence. This coupled with the graphic depictions of blood and gore combine to create a playing impact which is high.”

* Interestingly, the report also reveals that it wasn’t a unanimous decision and that “a minority of the Board is of the opinion that the violence is strong in playing impact and therefore warrants an MA15+ classification” instead. However, the majority voted to refuse classification.

Hopefully something can get worked out users in Australia to miss out on another big game.
